ACID Magic Receives NSF Standard 60 Certification as a Drinking Water Treatment Agent

COMMERCE CITY, CO (April 5, 2013) Certol International, LLC announced that ACID Magic® has been granted the coveted NSF/ANSI Standard 60 Certification from the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF).

NSF/ANSI Standard 60 certification allows ACID Magic to be used as a drinking water treatment chemical for pH adjustment, corrosion and scale control and as a cleaning agent for water treatment lines. Many states and Canadian provinces require certification to NSF Standards for water treatment chemicals and products in contact with drinking water. Qualifying for certification by the NSF requires that both the product and the manufacturing facility meet rigorous standards and pass a battery of tests to ensure that the product does not contribute contaminants to drinking water that will cause adverse health effects.

This certification opens the door to new markets for ACID Magic, including municipal and industrial drinking water treatment, water well service and repair and numerous other industries requiring NSF Standard 60 certification for the chemicals they utilize in their processes.  ACID Magic has many uses and is available in multiple sizes to meet a wide variety of needs. For more information on ACID Magic, visit www.Certol.com/ACIDMagic.

ACID Magic® is the Better Way to ACID Wash Your Pool!

Daylight savings is right around the corner, the weather’s getting warmer and pool season is fast approaching. Once summer hits it’ll be time to pull back the cover, fill’er up and jump right in!

Of course it’s not quite that simple. There’s still the issue of clearing the debris and cleaning the stains that accumulate during the winter season. For the really tough jobs, you’ll need to do an acid wash to lift the stubborn stains that soap and water just won’t touch. In cases where an acid wash is necessary, most pool service professionals will recommend using muriatic acid. Muriatic acid is extremely dangerous; it causes severe chemical burns to skin and the fumes can be deadly. Muriatic acid is nasty to work with but it’s the most effective chemical you can use to restore stained plaster.

Pool service crew using ACID Magic to acid wash pool.

HERE’S THE GOOD NEWS! - ACID Magic is just as effective for acid washing pools as standard muriatic - but ACID Magic has up to 90% less fumes than traditional muriatic acid and it won’t burn intact skin!  ACID Magic - The User Friendly Muriatic Acid!™* combines a buffer with hydrochloric acid, making ACID Magic Tough on stains Easier on You!™

*ACID Magic should not be used to aid or effect any pool disinfectant or water modifier.

E.U. Looking to U.S. for Needlestick Safety Groundwork

November 6, 2012 marked the 12th anniversary of the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act. This act has helped to lead the effort in education of Needlestick prevention in the healthcare industry. The healthcare industry is expected to grow vastly in the upcoming years. OSHA indicates that there are currently 5.6 million workers in the United States are at risk of bloodborne pathogens via needlestick injuries.

The European Union’s Health and Safety Executive is currently reviewing the need for needlestick regulations. If the regulations are put into place, the Europeans will look at the U.S.’ implementation of the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act as a guideline for what to expect. Mary Foley, PhD, and chair for Safe in Common, a non-profit committed to promoting awareness about needlestick safety, has been providing her recommendations on what the EU can learn from the US and their implementation of this act.

The U.S. has faced many challenges that the EU is hoping to avoid if the regulations are put into place. In an interview with www.infectioncontroltoday.com, Foley stated that many of the devices that were released soon after the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act passed, met the intent of the law, but safety is not integral to the product. Meaning that the product is not automatically safe and the process needed to make the device safe is, in fact, dangerous. Another, challenge that Foley identified is that flu season puts many people at risk because such a large number of workers and patients are exposed to sharps in a variety of different settings from, grocery stores, to parking lots, to airports. All of these places need to be properly equipped with sharps safety measures and disposal procedures. Regarding this process, Foley remarked, “Not only is the healthcare provider at risk but so are the communities in which those devices will be disposed. That is wrong! Protecting the public should not be traded for risks to the care provider, or the community.”
In 2010, The International Healthcare Worker Safety Center at the University of Virginia and the American Nurses Association agreed and came up with a call to action for the healthcare industry that focuses on the following five steps:
  1. Improve sharps safety in surgical settings.
  2. Understand and reduce exposure risks in non-hospital settings.
  3. Involve frontline workers in the selection of safety devices
  4. Address gaps in the availability of safety devices and encourage innovative designs and technology.
  5. Enhance worker education and training.
Needlestick injuries can be prevented if proper action is taken. It is up to the managers and workers in the clinics, offices, hospitals, or any other location where sharps are used for injections to be mindful of this. For the complete article on the EU needlestick regulations please visit www.infectioncontroltoday.com.

Certol manufacturers ProTector Needle Sheath, a needlestick safety device designed for applications where multiple injections from the same needle are required on a patient. Click here to learn more about ProTector Needle Sheath Prop.

Recent Donations of Note

Certol receives many requests for donation and strives to support those organizations whose mission align with our core values. We recently made two donations to different organizations that we have helped in the past. These entities appreciate the products that Certol was able to donate.

Dr. Williams in Honduras in 2011
TROSA, Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers, is a program which helps recovering addicts deal with their addictions head on. We recently donated ten pails of our Tumble™ Laundry Detergent to them and know that it will be put to good use in helping get patients back on track.

Missionary assisting DR Williams in Honduras
Certol also donated to a yearly dental mission that headed to Danli, Honduras. The trip lasted from January 25th to February 2nd. During that time Dr. Williams and others setup in a United Methodist Church called La Cofradia and provided dental care to the locals that could not afford to have regular dental care. We donated our ProSpray C-60™ product to ensure clean instruments and working areas in the church. We are always happy to hear stories and see photos from these trips. The trip was once again a success. Congratulations.
