Pro Tector at ADA

The Pro Tector® Needle Sheath will be a featured product at the ADA show later this week (October 18th – 20th).

The Pro Tector Needle Sheath is a disposable device intended to promote safe one-handed recapping; the technique recommended by OSHA and CDC. The product is a very simple concept, however, it is extremely functional.
Because all offices need a safety device like this we have put together a short “how to use” video to promote needle safety using Pro Tector Needle Sheath. We have had many requests for a video on this product for office presentations on safety and best practices.

Be sure to stop by Booth #  (536) in San Francisco, CA  to pick up your sample and say hi!

Today is World Tuberculosis Day!

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), March 24, is World Tuberculosis (TB) Day which aims to promote public awareness about tuberculosis, a preventable disease. TB is still prevalent in many parts of the world, affecting the lives of millions of people each year. Over 9 million people around the world get infected with TB each year, and there are almost 2 million TB related deaths recorded worldwide.

The campaign aims to inspire innovation in TB research and care. Tuberculosis is a preventable disease if the proper steps are taken to eliminate spreading the disease. Hand washing, surface cleaning, vaccinations, and TB treatment to those infected are just a few ways to prevent TB from spreading.

Certol makes a line of concentrated and ready-to-use surface disinfectants to be used to stop the spread of Tuberculosis. ProSpray, ProSpray wipes, and ProSpray C-60 are all products designed, tested and EPA approved to stop a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity including TB, HIV, Staphylococcus aureus, influenza virus and other significant pathogens. The ProSpray line is a water based non-alcohol active formula that will not stain, haze, or crack plastics, tubing or vinyl. Learn more here.

Today is World Tuberculosis day, but every day, actions should be taken to stop the spread of this preventable disease.

The Flu and Your Office in 2010-2011

If an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, Certol has you covered with our ProSpray line of disinfectant products. The different forms of the Influenza virus make it confusing to plan for and prevent transmission of the disease to your patients or from your patients while they are in your office. Here are some key facts
for infection control planning:

For 2010-2011, the CDC has announced they are anticipating FOUR strains of the seasonal flu virus to be present. The CDC flu website states:
“Human influenza A and B viruses cause seasonal epidemics of disease almost every winter in the United States.”

“…Influenza A viruses are divided into subtypes based on two proteins on the surface of the virus: the hemagglutinin (H) and the neuraminidase (N). There are 16 different hemagglutinin subtypes and 9 different neuraminidase subtypes. Influenza A viruses can be further broken down into different strains. Current subtypes of influenza A viruses found in people are influenza A (H1N1) and influenza A (H3N2) viruses…”
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010).

While specific viral strains must be identified for effective vaccination, for surface disinfectants there are two critical claims to look for on the label:
m. tuberculosis var. bovis (TB) because TB is harder to kill than viruses, and the basic influenza A and B kill claims.

ProSpray has you covered with specific label claims for influenza A 1, Influenza B, and H1N1 (formerly called Swine flu). We anticipate a claim for the fourth seasonal strain of H3N2 to be added in the very near future. And the ProSpray family of disinfectants is also certified as an intermediate level disinfectant with broad
spectrum claims for HIV-1, TB, Staphyloccocus aureus and E. coli.

While flu season is right around the corner, you need to practice good infection control practices all year long. ProSpray will support your infection control
program with a water based formula that will not dry out, crack or discolor your office upholstery like bleach and alcohol based disinfectants can.
